About OCF
Welcome to the OCF Hobart Website.
OCF Hobart is a family of students and recent graduates from countries around the world including Australia, China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Botswana, and Singapore. We meet during the semester for weekly events such as Bible studies, prayer, worship times, as well as for group outings, sports, camps and outreach nights.
As part of OCF Australia, we share in the vision of reaching out, building up and sending back the people in our sphere of influence. We also have our own center's theme for 2009 which is He Is The Reason.
Have a browse of the site and see what we get up to. If you have any questions, Please feel free to Contact Us and we will try our best to help you. Enjoy!!!
OCF Vision
Reach Out, Build up, Send Back
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
~ Matthew 28:18-20
OCF Vision is taken directly from the great commission given by Jesus to his disciples before He ascended to heaven. The great commission has not changed, so neither should our vision.
The turnover rate of students in Uni is very high. We have limited resources to reach out to people and build them up adequately before they can be effective disciplers by the time they go back to their home country or working world or elsewhere.
But don’t be disheartened. Our task may be huge, but we are serving an even bigger God. We will continue to sow little seeds one at a time, and let God handle the pruning and growing. Let us embrace this year as leaders to “bring every individual who comes seeking, a step at a time closer to the Almighty God we serve, regardless of what stage they are at. “
How can we build people up if we are not building ourselves up as leaders? How can we grow others if we ourselves are not growing? As leaders, our relationship with God is most important because we cannot pour from an empty vessel. We ought to be pouring out of the overflow of His strength, love and grace that God has shown us as we CHOOSE to draw closer to Him each and every day.
I cannot stress enough of the importance of prayer and having a regular quiet time with Him and as a committee. OCF is not just a “Christian” duty on Friday. Rather let us all pour out from the abundance that He has given us.
The OCF Hobart Vision 2009
Jesus – the Reason
“But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” ~ 1 Peter 3:15
For those who don’t know, this is the theme for this year. To summarize:
a) This theme fits with the OCF Vision and the great Commission to go out and tell the good news and the hope that we profess. So what is this reason or hope we are talking about?
b) The theme brings us back to basics - the significance of the cross, God’s love, grace and mercy. How can the cross be the answer to the hurt, sufferings and disappointments in life? How can the cross be the hope to the hopeless?
c) By investigating these, I believe we are able to fall back (or fall deeper) in love with God. Therefore, the reason and hope that we believe can come out of the overflow of our revelation of God’s grace and love.
d) The reason to serve - At most times we need to know the reason behind something (like why we flush the toilet after use) to be motivated to continue doing something. Many of us (especially those who have been in the faith for quite some time) may have lost the meaning/zeal of serving. We can sometimes be at a danger of serving out of obligation. Bringing us back to the love of God, we are able to serve out of gratitude and love.
e) The reason to tell – Having the revelation of God’s love, it is also easy to tell people of the hope that we have.
